least 20 years ago: before using an herb, check out its safety in at least
Ok, as far as the Jeanne Rose Herbal book, I'd discard the entire section
on douches; we know a lot more about female body chemistry now and doctors
and herbalists generally tell us there are very few occasions when a
douche is a good idea. The recipes Jeanne Rose marks as hazardous should
be taken seriously as hazardous, too; but she doesn't always mark the
period recipes which have hazardous ingredients.. I would stay away from
the Aphrodisiac recipes; obvious 'not for general consumption' ingredients
include cocaine, cannabis, peyote, magic mushrooms and hashish; however,
other ingredients such as oil of thuja, damiana, psillium, datura, rue,
hemplock, monkshood, mistletoe, nightshade and henbane. :) Comfrey and
tansy for internal consumption are now also cautioned against.
