I'm trying to figure out what she is wearing that she is nursing like
that. I have a vested interest in nursing in garb at the moment and I
have fascination with any period representation of it. (To that end
feel free to email me off list if you have any others you know of, I'm
trying to compile a list.)
This is early 11th century England which we normally think of as
tunics. It looks to me like she's lifted the tunic to nurse though and
doesn't seem to be wearing an undertunic (bare arms). A friend thought
perhaps she had a large sleeve she was able to push up to her chest but
that doesn't seem to fit with what I know of garb in that period. Is it
possible she's actually wearing two seperate pieces?
I'm really curious to hear what others think!
