I would recommend boning, because it: A) It's proven period. B) Will give
your body shape more straight lines than curves, giving a slimmer appearance.
I go to _www.grannd.com_ (http://www.grannd.com) . Great prices, and I've
never had to wait long wondering when my stays/bones will arrive. I like
the precut 1/4" spring steel bones, because of my arthritis, but they also sell
it by the yard prepainted in white rust-coating for just $1/yard. This type
of boning disappears nicely into a gown if you first make an interlining of
2 layers of cotton duck or 3 layers of heavy linen (as done in period).
Simply stitch straight lines down through all interlining layers, and Viola! You
have boning channels that lay much more smoothly than applied boning
casings. They also offer handmade wooden busks... Buckram-and-wire hooping,
instead of just plastic-coated... Let me temp you...
No affiliation whatsoever. But I spent several days pricing bones online,
and I kept returning to this company.
