Well I had to do the exact same thing out of the
Simplicity Burgundian pattern. I just sewed the
blasted thing together as if there was no zipper in
the first place. Of course, I had to enlarge draft
out the darts and let out the bodice because it was
too small for me. However, I think it would depend on
what you were making. In my case, the bodice needed a
lining so I sewed the lining and bodice fabric
together and then turned it all inside out and it gave
me nice finished edges. Ooops, before that I used
fusible interfacing on the fabrics to strengthen them.
Inserted boning on the edge and then the grommets.
Of course, how period correct is quetionable, but I
ended up with a lovely gown nonetheless. I have a
picture on the camera but have still not developed the
roll, but as soon as I do, I will post it to the list.
I don't know if this was helpful or not, but this is
what I did.
