I did a little more digging into the Romance of Alexander. There are a few
more examples of men's cotes having both particolor construction and front
There is one small image of a particolor gown on a female that *might* have
front closure buttons, but it's not a very well defined image, and the few
spots that might be buttons might also just be where the artist tapped the
parchment on accident. I don't know that I'd call it definite on the female
image, but the images of men with the look are there.
