Tonight Hubby & I watched Princess Bride, and during the wedding scene, he says "I'd love to have [Humperdink's]costume, if it wasn't powder blue."
(I can't find a good shot of it, but this gets part of it: http://www.wedding-hawaiian.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/princess-bride-wedding-dresses-4.jpg )
Upon further discussion, he says "Well, you know, like Henry the Eighth." (He's most likely referring to this: http://oddsandinsonline.com/catalog/images/Tudors/Henry%20VIII%20(3)%20by%20Holbein.gif )
Not the same thing.
If I'm "reading" these costumes correctly, Humperdink is wearing a short houpelande with hanging sleeves and hose, Henry is wearing a doublet, pumpkin pants or slops, hose, and an over vest.
Can anyone point me to good data about these two costume styles? I'm pretty sure I'm right on the Henry VIII and somewhere (safe from me, sigh) I have Patterns of Fashion and The Tudor Tailor, so I'm probably good there, but I've no idea on the houpe. I've never sewn either of the two outfits, so any advice is welcome as well :)

- Thank you, Katheryne. Yes, stepping away is sometimes critical to solving a problem. Stepping away, sleeping on it, letting it stew while I do housework -Message 51 of 51 , Oct 30, 2011View SourceThank you, Katheryne. Yes, stepping away is sometimes critical to solving a
problem. Stepping away, sleeping on it, letting it stew while I do
housework - prevents frustration and destruction! And of course, being able
to talk to a group like this beats the heck out of talking to the walls. If
you all answer a question, or even just an out-loud rambling, that's fine,
but if the walls ever start answering...oh boy.
Of course, it does feel nice to reach understanding of the issue through
one's own mental wanderings.even though it's so nice to know that help is
available here if understanding never quite comes otherwise!
