  • There was one incident a number of years back in S. Ohio, not a bow failure; one of the archers managed to shoot a arrow shaped copper pin into his arm - it required stitches. Adel--- was the MIC too, very embarrassing, I'm sure. I remember it pretty well, as Arwenna tried to talk him into taking it off his left tunic front beforehand. One of the reasons we encourage neck area...

  • I just wanted to comment that if your backstop tends to be bales, 20" is possibly a better idea for your bolts. Bales are usually 16" - so you'll find them protruding somewhere far more often. This also tends to be a very stable length, in out experience. ....................... Ian Gourdon of Glen Awe Midrealm Forester - OP "- bows of carved wood strong for use, with well-seasoned...

  • ">My original idea was to take on three Merry Men. Basically three guys who showed enough interest to obtain a bow, good arrows, and all the other equipment necessary to participate in SCA archery. Thus far I have found only two. Merlin went out and recruited a half dozen Merry Men with no trouble at all. Other members of the Greenwood company are forming similar "bands". The idea...

  • I shoot both crossbows and handbows. If you want an equalizer, challenge somebody to 30 seconds at 25 yards. I believe that shoot is a toss-up. I'd choose my long bow. • Make no mistake. The Fourth Peerage is going to be the equivalent of pulling healthy teeth. You will have to shoot well enough to get Knights to notice. You will have to dress well enough to get Laurels to like it. You will have to sweat enough to be a Pelican. And be the model of Grace and Chivalry. Anything less will be ignored. ........ Otherwise, I'm with Richard. Ian Gourdon...
