successfully established a royal round average using
an atlatl. His scores were duly reported to the East
Kingdom Scorekeeper, who got a chuckle out of the
proceedings but informed me they could not be included
in the kingdom rankings as the atlatl was not a legal
weapon under archery rules.
Sir Tanaka was also involved in designing and trying
to implement the use of hand siege engines for last
year's Abbey battle at Pennsic. The perriers or sling
sticks we used were basically bamboo poles with a
sling mounted at one end. I throw like a girl, but I
can lob a tennis ball 100' with a perrier. At the last
minute we discovered we were to be used as light
archers and didn't get to do very much as the Midrealm
successfully held the abbey for most of the battle,
but they're fun weapons and hopefully will return for
Pennsic this year.
