HTTPS is HTTP with SSL (encryption). Check for the little lock in your browser.  For banking and some email providers, an advanced version may be available so that when you click on the lock in your address bar, it tells you what company owns the site you are visiting, not just that some unknown person bought encryption. For example, Chrome shows the lock in green on login.yahoo.com.

Also check that the site you're visiting is the site you think it is. That means check the URL. Read the URL in the address bar all the way to the slash before you start typing any credentials.

          is not the same as

If there's no little lock, anyone on the network can snoop your password as you send it.

If there's a little lock, but it's the wrong site, congratulations, you're doing the same as mailing a blank check to the unscrupulous next-door-neighbor of the person to whom you owed the money.

Yahoo’s email password account was hacked last July, which “led to  approximately 450,000 account logins and passwords being revealed online in plain text”.

So lots of SCA groups are being hit by spam from folks with Yahoo email accounts, as this one was.
