      The correct phrasing of this question is, "How would a longbow
      be stowed by a traveler in period ..." since I doubt that an Italian
      or Spanish arbalester would use his crossbow as a walking stick, nor
      would most Central Asiatic archers, since their bows would be in the
      bowcase secured either to their waist or their horse's saddle.
