I like using two layers of leather, the first fitting inside the tube and
the second just enough larger to overlap the edge of the tube. Glue the
two layers together. They can be attached by blind stitching for a
hidden seam or overcast with lacing. Glue can be used in the seam for
added strength but isn't really needed. Any number of leather
fabrication books show these techniques.
