      The only thing the silk shirt did was keep the wound clean. It surely did NOT keep the arrowhead from penetrating. The shirt increased the chance that the victim would not die from infection, which killed more people than the wounds themselves would have. (unless it was a vital organ shot)....and yes, they did "foul" their arrowheads in nasty stuff, just for that reason.
