      I had the pleasure of learning about these Straw Bale specialists in Italy tonight.

      "Wire Straw is an architectural firm specializing in the construction of houses of straw and sustainable materials" in Italy. :-)

      Their latest project, Casa F ( under construction), is 112 m2, and has an energy use target/ estimate of 5.16 kwh/m2 for the winter heating season. That's a total of about 578 kwh, which would cost around $36.12 +tax where I live... and if I recall correctly, it's about 1/2 the maximum energy use target*set by the EU. (10 kwh/m2).  :-)

        My Italian is beyond rusty, but I am guessing that the business name might be translated as "blade of straw" or perhaps 'strand' or 'thread'. We say "blade of grass" in English, and I can't think of a common English phrase for a single stem of wheat, oats, or other cereal grains.
