      *  STUDENTS FROM LITTLE BIG HORN COLLEGE, in Montana, met with
         Crow tribal leaders on Wednesday to try to block an attempt
         by some members of the college's Board of Trustees to fire
         the institution's president, Janine Pease-Pretty on Top, one
         of the country's most prominent tribal-college leaders.

      *  THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE today named Janine Wedel, an
         anthropologist affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh's
         Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, as the

         Order. Ms. Wedel will receive $200,000 in cash for her book
         on "misguided" Western assistance to former Soviet-bloc
         nations.
