Opportunity - Summer in Ecuador, Medical Anthro
- Passing along a wonderful summer opportunity from our friend and SACCFest San Diego speaker, Dr. Bonnie Bade:
Hi colleagues, please share this unique opportunity to learn Intercultural Medicine and Spanish in Ecuador this summer.
Course collaborates with CIMAS Academy and with indigenous medical practitioners in rural and urban clinics and pueblos to learn about intercultural medicine, indigenous medical practices, agroecologia with Quichua-speaking farmers, and indigenous education in schools. Includes six units for students (3 Spanish, 3 Anth/Soc/Kine/HD), housing with host family, and two meals a day. We'll be traveling around the countryside visiting indigenous practitioners, learning from Shaman Santillan about indigenous world view, meeting with Quichua-speaking midwives at a rural clinic, visiting the county hospital where Ecuador's new constitutional law of interculturality is practiced by having indigenous herbalists and other medical specialists practice alongside clinical health providers, and many other exciting and life-altering learning experiences.
You do not have to be a student to take this course. Offered through Office of Global Affairs and Extended Learning.
Flight not included.
Please let your students and friends know this opportunity is available. Thanks.
