> Dear AN editors and columnists,
> I have an important update for you about the print issues of AN. Weve been moving right along with transitioning our print production to a vendor. This move will allow me to hire a second AN person in the early fall to help manage ANs 2 publications arms the website as well as the print issue. More importantly, it will help us further develop AN as a timely news source of anthropology and work on increasing anthropologys visibility in the public eye.
> In order to meet the new print production schedule, the regular deadline for monthly print columns is now the first of the month, 2 months before print publication. This is approximately 2 weeks earlier than it has been. The print column deadlines for the fall issues are:
> Sept columns => due July 1
> (Please note: No Section News in print AN in Sept, but feel free to publish a column online)
> Oct columns => due August 1
> Nov columns => due Sept 1
> Dec columns => due Oct 1
> Please note that it will be more important than ever to:
> - Turn in print columns on time
> - Make sure your columns are in excellent shape when you submit them.
> o Be sure to follow AN guidelines, especially regarding word length
> o This is important even if someone else has written it and you are the editor. Please be sure to review it well and work out any edits with the author before sending it to me. My editorial review will be light.
> I will have much less flexibility with last minute changes and am relying on you in your roles as contributing editors to ensure your section/committee columns are ready to print. I know for section editors, you have presidents who sometimes need something in AN urgently. The deadline for content to me will still be the 1st of the month, approximately 2 months out, so please adjust any deadlines you give out accordingly. Im also asking Kim Baker, our governance coordinator, to share the new deadline schedule with the Section Assembly, so they will be aware of it too.
> While print columns will be turned in earlier, online columns will work the same way: I review all pending columns (ie, the ones submitted via WordPress) from section/committee editors on Mondays. I stronglyencourage you to make more use of the AN website for publishing your regular columns. The exclusive online columns have been excellent, and the feedback I get about the website has been extremely positive. Bob Muckles piece from yesterday about archaeology under fire in Canada is particularly timely, and has already been shared from the AN website via social media 161 times.
> As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
