      DEPARTMENT OF WOMENíS STUDIES

      SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY


      The Department of Womenís Studies at San Diego State University invites
      applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Full
      Professor. We seek to strengthen our offerings in the following areas, or
      any combination therof:


      ** SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION OF IDENTITY AND BODY including issues surrounding
      identity, self-concept, and the body; also, social policy areas such as
      reproductive issues, aging, mental health, disability or body image.


      ** POLICY/LAW including issues surrounding social activism and public
      policy, especially in legal studies, immigration, and international
      parliamentary processes; also public policy areas such as welfare,
      violence,
      the sex trade, other substantive debates in the public arena.


      ** POSTCOLONIAL THEORY AND HISTORY including interconnections between the
      history of the West and that of developing nations; also, international
      development and the history of colonization and decolonization.


      ** SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY including history of women/gender in science in
      relation to access and representation, environmental issues, and
      technological change; also, epistemology and the critique of dominant
      scientific models.


      The successful candidate must have a Ph.D., as well as experience in
      Womenís
      Studies or a related field, and:


      * A strong record of publications in scholarly journals

      * A demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching of a very diverse,
      often first-generation student population

      * A commitment to strengthening a successful graduate degree program

      * Experience in working collaboratively with colleagues and community

      * An interest in building international connections, particularly with
      Latin
      America and Asia/Pacific Rim


      REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS WILL BEGIN DECEMBER 1, 2000 and continue until the
      position is filled. The appointment is scheduled to begin in August 2001.
