      DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY
      Applications are invited for appointment to the above tenurable position beginning 1 February 2001. Applicants must have a PhD in anthropology and substantial teaching and research experience in medical anthropology in the Australian context. An interest in urban anthropology is desirable. The Department teaches and conducts research on a wide range of topics including sociocultural aspects of natural resource development, migration studies, gender relations, globalisation and social inequality and medical anthropology. The Centre for Anthropological Research within the Department conducts consulting and commissioned research. The successful applicant will have a good record in research and publishing, a demonstrated ability as a university teacher and the ability to work in a collegial academic environment. Experience supervising postgraduate research students and the ability to attract research funding are desirable attributes. The appointee will be expected to teach and develop units at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, especially at first year level, to supervise postgraduate students, to undertake research and to participate where appropriate in departmental/school administration. Applicants with teaching experience are requested to submit a teaching portfolio as part of their application. Women are especially encouraged to apply.
      The Department, which was established in 1963, has nine full-time academic staff (plus three staff in its Centre for Archaeology), a substantial undergraduate and postgraduate student body and publishes the international journal Anthropological Forum.       SALARY RANGE: Lecturer Level B $AUS49,887 - $59, 243 p.a.
      CLOSING DATE: 29 September 2000 (extended closing date).
