      FLINTKNAPPING CLASS & FIELD SCHOOL

      Dr. Errett Callahan


      Dr. Errett Callahan is an award-winning stone knife maker, the author of The

      Basics of Bifacial Knapping, and a leading authority on Type IV Danish
      dagger
      replication.  He is a pioneer of experimental and reconstructive archeology,

      and founder and past-president of the Society of Primitive Technology.  Dr.
      Callahan considers this his "millenium trip" and is one of the very few
      times
      he has conducted classes in the West.

      July 15-21, 2000    Portland, Oregon

      Beginning through advanced knappers will learn a systematic approach to the
      stages of biface production.  All knapping will be done in a traditional
      manner drawn from the Paleolithic and Neolithic tool kits.  Three meals per
      day, facilities, and comfortable tent spots will be provided.  Tuition:

      July 24-30, 2000    Central Oregon Field School

      For advanced knappers only.  This class will concentrate on advanced biface
      staging, using the Type IV Danish dagger as a model.  Square section axes,
      blade-making, and a variety of other techniques will be covered.  Three
      meals
      per day, facilities, and comfortable tent spots will be provided.  Tuition:
