Re: [SACC-L] Spanish language help?
- Hi Dianne,
Although I can't help you with translating the Spanish phrase, I use this film in my Anthropology of Drugs course and am familiar with the ethnography. Douglas Sharon is the anthropologist and he is with the San Diego Museum of Man. He outlines Eduardo's work in the article "The San Pedro Cactus in Peruvian Folk Healing" contained in Peter Furst's (ed) " The Flesh of the Gods: The Ritual Use of Hallucinogens." (1990, Waveland Press: Prospect Heights, IL)
I hope this helps!
Hello All!I'm working on the instructor's manual for the second edition of Heider's textbook. One of the new films used is "Eduardo the Healer." I haven't been able to get my hands on the related ethnography and have been trying to figure out one particular term.Eduardo uses a guinea pig in the augery process of a cleansing ritual. The narrator uses the term "limpia con _____." The _____ part sounds a lot like "gooey." Can anyone help? The ethnography was made in Las Delicias, Peru.
Narrator:A limpia con kooey** or guinea pig ceremony, can occur routinely almost any time and is Eduardos way of separating those clients he thinks he can help from those whose problems are either not serious or require medical attention.
Thanks for your help.
P.S. The text has had extensive revision and some of you will be glad to know that "Dani Recess" is no longer included!
