      Department of Anthropology

      Lectureships in Anthropology

      Applications are invited for one or more Lectureships in Anthropology in
      the Department of  Anthropology, from 1st September 2000.

      One of these posts will be for a candidate able to convene and teach the
      core module for our M.A. programme in Environmental Anthropology.
      Preference for this and the other post or posts will be given to a
      candidates able to teach in the areas of development, ethnicity and
      nationalism, and kinship. Successful candidates will be expected to further
      develop their own research and to contribute to other teaching within the
      Department, e.g. to first year lectures and seminars and our  postgraduate

      Ideally, the person or persons appointed will have a doctoral level
      qualification in a relevant area of anthropology, a good record of
      publications and a proven ability to attract research funding.

      Specialities should be in an area that has synergies with existing research
      in the Department and can contribute to general student development within
      a department that includes, social, environmental and biological
      anthropology, and biodiversity management and conservation. Competence in
      one or more of the following would also be an advantage: visual
      anthropology, medical anthropology and the anthropology of tourism.

      Preference will be given to those candidates most likely to contribute to
      the research standing of the department.

      The appointments will be on the Lecturer scale A (currently £17,238 -
      £22,579) or B scale (£23,521-£30,065) at a point determined by the
      qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. Exceptionally,
      one appointment may be made at the Senior Lecturer Level.
