      PRESIDENT



      An exciting leadership opportunity exists at a comprehensive technical
      college located in northwestern South Carolina. After 46 years of
      outstanding leadership, the current President, Dr. Thomas E. Barton,
      Jr., has announced his retirement.

      The Greenville Technical College Area Commission (local board) and the
      Presidential Search Committee for Greenville Technical College invite
      applications and nominations for the position of President, the Chief
      Executive Officer of the College. Greenville Technical College, the
      largest of sixteen technical colleges in the South Carolina Technical
      College System is located in Greenville, South Carolina. The college
      serves a diverse population of approximately 417,000 in its service area
      that features a mixture of manufacturing, industry, an involved business
      community and educational institutions. The college offers more than 160
      programs leading to an associate degree, diploma or certificate in the
      technical/occupational disciplines. The college also offers Associate in
      Arts and Associate in Science degrees which are transferable to
      baccalaureate programs. The 2006 full time enrollment student population
      of the College was more than 14,338 and 22,422 students were served in
      the Continuing Education Division. The college employs a permanent
      faculty and staff of 698 and is home to the only University Transfer
      Honors program at a two-year college in South Carolina. Greenville
      Technical College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges
      and Schools.

      QUALIFICATIONS



      * Master's degree required; an earned doctorate is strongly preferred.



      * Ten years of progressively responsible experiences in postsecondary
      education and/or senior-level administration.



      The Greenville Technical College Area Commission is looking for an
      honest, ethical, open, high-energy visionary leader who exhibits the
      following profile:



      * Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral,
      with internal and external groups;



      * A clear understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission
      of a comprehensive technical college;



      * A commitment to the use of technology in the classroom and other areas
      of the college;



      * A commitment to affirmative action and to achieving a climate that
      promotes cultural, ethnic and gender diversity;



      * A commitment to supporting and leading the efforts of the community in
      economic development;



      * A commitment to excellence in teaching and student success;



      * A general knowledge of fiscal matters and a commitment to resource
      development necessary to accomplish the mission of a comprehensive
      technical college;



      * A successful record of promoting partnerships with various
      constituencies including other educational agencies, business and
      industry and community groups;



      * A record of leadership experience that demonstrates a decision making
      style that is based on collaborative relationships;



      * A demonstrated ability to maintain the academic integrity of all
      programs;



      * A clear understanding of and the ability to work with the political
      process;



      * An understanding of the System relationship between the President,
      Area Commissioners, and the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive
      Education;



      * A commitment to supporting professional development for all college
      personnel; and



      * An open, proactive, creative and entrepreneurial style of leadership.
