Subject: Ontario Archaeological Society Symposium
The annual symposium of the Ontario Archaeological Society is being held
this year on the campus of the University of Waterloo, from the evening of
Friday October 29 through the morning of Sunday October 31. We want to
invite anyone with an interest in the archaeology of Ontario, or just
archaeology generally, to attend this year's symposium:
The Human Ecology of Ontario's Eleven Millennia:
People, Environment, Change, and Adaptation Throughout the Holocene
Some of the researchers presenting papers this year are: Gary Crawford and
Joe Desloges; Frank Dieterman; Chris Ellis, Alan Morgan and John McAndrews;
Susan Jamieson; Scarlett Janusas, Steve Blasco, Stan McClellan and Arthur
Amos; Robert MacDonald; Holly Martelle;
Joseph Muller; Suzanne Needs-Howarth; Peter Ramsden; John Steckley;
Frances Stewart; and Peter Timmins. The titles of their papers can be found
on the symposium website:
You can also contact co-chair Robert Park for more information
519-888-4567 x5666). The symposium will begin with a free lecture Friday
October 29 at 7:30, open to the public as well as to symposium registrants,
by Dr. Peter Storck of the Royal Ontario Museum, entitled:
Ice Age Beginnings: The Archaeology and
Natural History of Ontario's First People
This will be followed by a small reception. There will be papers all day
Saturday, and Sunday morning. Since it'll be October and we'll be in
Waterloo region, Saturday evening's banquet at the Waterloo Inn will of
course commence with a spectacular and entertaining ceremonial Keg Tapping
staged by the official Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest committee, with a
complimentary glass of beer for all wishing to partake. There will also be
entertainment by the renowned Beirdo Brothers. So make sure you're there!
Further information, including registration forms and maps indicating how to
get to the symposium, is also available on the symposium website (above).
The advance registration discounts are only available until October 15 so
