      GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
      Staff Cultural Resources Coordinator for the central Texas region responsible to the Cultural Resources Program Director. Advises on and implements procedures to manage and protect archeological and historical resources on lands owned and operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Responsible for coordinating all resource management and protection for the region and assigned TPWD lands. Performs administrative, review, management, and field work required for compliance with the Antiquities Code of Texas, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and other laws and regulations as required. Duties include, but not limited to, developing cultural resource management plans; writing scopes of work and overseeing contracted archeological and historical research projects; developing and managing project budgets; coordinating program activities within the agency and with external agencies and organizations; providing technical assistance and support to operations/site managers; serving as a member of project teams as established for regional activities; providing assistance to the Natural Resources Program Manager for project related issues. May supervise one or more employees as needed.
      WORKING CONDITIONS:
      (1) Normal workweek is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional work during hours other than the normal workweek including Saturday, Sunday and holidays; (2) Extensive travel within the central Texas region, and limited in south Texas, with occasional travel to other parts of the state as necessary for field assessment with possible overnight stays; (3) Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and possible difficult terrain.
      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
      Education:
      Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Anthropology, Archeology, Applied History, Historic Preservation, or related field.
      Experience:
      Three years progressively responsible experience in the field of professional cultural resources management and archeology. Experience to include: (1) archeological field work; (2) supervisory experience; (3) project management; (4) writing professional monographs and or reports on archeological or cultural resources issues.
      License/Certifications:
      Must possess or be able to obtain, within 60 days of employment, a valid Texas class "C" driver's license. Note: Retention of position is contingent upon maintaining license.
      SELECTION CRITERIA:
      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      (1) Knowledge of historical archeology, gained through academic training and supervisory field experience; (2) Knowledge of 19th century material culture, particularly ceramics; (3) Knowledge of historic artifact identification and analysis techniques; (4) Knowledge of Texas historic and prehistoric archeology; (5) Ability to apply cultural resource management theory and practice; (6) Ability to apply resource management research techniques and methodologies; (7) Skill in archeological/technical report writing; (8) Skill in archeological site identification and/or testing, and archeological field recording; (9) Knowledge of historic architecture; (10) Ability to utilize GIS/GPS for field recording and database compilation; (11) Knowledge of natural resources protection and stewardship; (12) Knowledge of environmental assessment and impact statements; (13) Ability to manage and coordinate diverse program activities and accomplish program goals using independent judgment and initiative; (14) skill in managing multiple projects, short deadlines, and conflicting priorities; (15) Ability to administer contracts; (16) Skill using computerized databases and word processing programs; (17) Ability to work with individuals with different types of training and backgrounds to create solutions and bring projects to completion; (18) Ability to work under minimal supervision, exercise initiative, and accomplish several tasks simultaneously; (19) Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and using technical writing skills; (20) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
