      Hi everyone:

I would like to share the following new Study Abroad Program with you
all. Please share the information with interested students and
      colleagues.

I am writing to let you know about a new Summer Study-Abroad Program in
Marseille (France) entitled "Arab Voices and the West" that Martine
Antle (Romance Languages-French, UNC-Chapel Hill) and I (Sahar Amer,
Asian Studies-Arabic, UNC-Chapel Hill) are co-organizing and that we
will be co-leading starting Summer 2004. This program is geared
towards both undergraduate (with at least 4 semesters of French) and
graduate students and will run from May 28 to July 31st, 2004.
Students will have the opportunity to explore Franco-Arabic culture and
engage in original field research in the vibrant setting of Marseille.
They will focus on the notion of cultural, linguistic, historical and
geographic borders and the emergence of a Franco-Arabic culture in
Europe today. Special program events include the week-long
International Festival of Documentary Film in Marseille, as well as
meetings with film directors and local Franco-Arabic rap groups,
grassroots associations, women's groups, and artists. During this
intensive two-month program in Marseille, students will complete four 3-
credit courses (for a total of 12 credits).
