The Anthropology Section of the New Academy of Sciences

      Invites You to Attend

      "Anthropologist in the Vatican"

      Date: December 8, 2003

      Time: 7:30 pm

      Location: At the Academy

Dinner at 6:00 pm; by reservation

      Speaker: David Kertzer, Brown University

Discussant: Paul E. Murray, Bard College

Dr. Kertzer's talk will reflect on one anthropologist's experiences in doing research in and on the Vatican, with special focus on the highly contentious topic of the Vatican's role in the rise of modern anti-Semitism. The challenge of combining original scholarly research with writing for a broad intellectual audience will also be addressed, as will the experience of having a book turned into a play.
