      Fulbright-Hays Faculty Professional Development Seminar in Turkey
      During the Summer of 2004 (June 1- July 5)

      Contingent upon funding by the Fulbright - Hays Group Projects Abroad
      program of the U.S. Department of Education, Tyler Junior College will
      sponsor a five week faculty professional development seminar in Turkey
      during the summer of 2004. Fifteen educators, five from each of the
      following: university, community college and public school teachers and
      administrators, will be selected to participate in this project. The
      seminar is intended to enhance professional competence of individual
      teachers, to enrich the curriculum in the social sciences and humanities
      and to develop well-rounded programs in Turkish studies, Middle East
      studies and/or global education.
      The five-week program will include an intensive academic component at
      Middle East Technical and Bilkent Universities, in Ankara. There will
      also be organized field visits and study tours in a number of historic
      sites in several cities, as well as visit to cultural centers, museums,
      historic monuments, theaters, schools, hospitals, factories and research

      The federal grant is expected to meet most of the expenses in
      connection with the seminar: international travel, surface travel within
      Turkey, hotel rooms (double occupancy) and two meals a day, as well as
      expenses in connection with officially scheduled conferences and
      cultural activities. The registration fee is $950 for the participants
      who are selected.

      Your application must include the following items:

      1. A letter of interest
      2. Complete Vita
      3. Two letters of reference
      4. Proposal

      In the proposal, applicants must answer the following questions:

      Nature of Your Position and Past Accomplishments
      Please provide a brief description of the nature of your teaching or
      curriculum-related (non-teaching) position and how it relates to the
      overall purpose of the Seminar Abroad program. Include the EVIDENCES of
      your past accomplishments in global and multi-cultural education.

      Needs for Overseas Experience
      Explain your need for this overseas experience and why you want to
      participate in the seminar.

      Plans to Utilize the Experience
      Describe how you would incorporate the seminar experience into your
      professional work (such as teaching, curriculum development, and other
      outreach activities) to enhance international/intercultural

      International Understanding
      Describe what your personal and professional experience has been with
      regard to other societies and cultures.
