      I hear everything is doing well. I have suppressed the urge to call you because I know you've got a lot on your mind and hands (ie pumping and everything). But your mother and father are keeping me up to date.
      Heidi is status quo. Still having occasional contractions, still 1 cm dilated, but nothing else. She actually went back to work for 3 days this week.
      Regarding the SACC conference. I was going propose to do a shortened version of a talk I did at a Campus Conversations a couple of years ago -- Reel Teachers: the portrayal of teachers in the media. The shortened version is Reel Anthropology Teachers. (Most teachers portrayed in the media are English teachers because most screen writers were English majors.)
      However, this would definitely require a VCR and monitor.
      Your father said that the issue was financial and suggested that if enough people wanted to use VCR and monitor for their presentation, that SACC might be willing to spend the money for it. Is this so?

      The Society for Anthropology in Community Colleges is holding its annual conference in Montreal, Canada April 1-April 3, 2004. The theme of the conference is: The Indigenous Peoples of North America in Contemporary Times.


      Proposals for paper presentations on any topic relating to anthropology are welcome. Presentations on teaching anthropology, college-based research, outreach programs, and the Indigenous Cultures of North America are particularly encouraged.


      Abstracts should be no longer than 125 words and must be received no later than January 31, 2004.


      The abstracts should be sent to Rebecca Stein, Department of Anthropology, Los Angeles Valley College, Valley Glen, California, 91401 or steinrl@....


      Presentations are tentatively scheduled for 15 minutes.


      Notification of acceptance or rejection of proposals will be completed by February 21st, 2004


      No proposal will be accepted for final inclusion in the program until the program chair receives confirmation from the AAA, prior to March 8th, 2004, that conference registration fees have been paid


      A slide projector and overhead will be available. Presentations requiring film, video, Internet access, and PowerPoint may not be accommodated (unless the presenter will be bringing his/her own equipment, which must be indicated on the abstract).
