* THE PERCENTAGE of community-college presidencies held by
women has increased significantly in the last five years, but
members of minority groups have not gained any ground,
according to a survey that will be released by the American
Association of Community Colleges in April.

* THE GOVERNMENT of British Columbia surprised and angered
faculty members this week by giving its public community
colleges the right to void union agreements. A bill approved
on Monday gives the institutions the specific right to set
salaries, determine class size, and make professors teach
using distance learning, among other things.
