Group Description

Our group archives contain 70K+ messages chronicling our 9 year conversation about the impact of a peak in world oil production upon technological civilization.

Industry data indicate that production peaked in May 2005 and has been in a plateau since then. Consumption continues to increase, and the difference is being made up by drawing down inventories.

The ability of alternative sources of energy to substitute for petroleum and natural gas is seriously disputed by many scientists.

How this future plays out remains to be seen, but energy scarcities could bring economic dislocations, food shortages, fighting over resources, and (literally) billions of human deaths.

Got a local food, energy, & economic system?
