      The American School of Classical Studies at Athens invites applications for
      the position of Director of the Gennadius Library in Athens. The
      appointment is for a three-year term, which begins July 1, 2004 and ends
      June 30, 2007, and is renewable. Applicants should be an established
      scholar in one or more areas of the Gennadeion collection (Greek history,
      literature and culture). The Director provides leadership in managing,
      conserving, and building the Library's collections including the Archives;
      fosters relations with the international scholarly community and local
      Greek community; and works closely with the School and Blegen Library and
      Archives to support the School's curriculum and research
      activities. Important administrative responsibilities of the Director
      include supervision of the Library staff; oversight of the budgeting
      process; and cooperation with the Trustees in fundraising efforts. Fluency
      in Greek and English is advantageous to the position. The salary is
      competitive and commensurate with experience; benefits include TIAA/CREF,
      group life insurance, health coverage, and housing.
