Group Description

What if the Etruscans or Carthaginians had conquered Rome before it had a chance to become an empire? Could Justinian have finished the reconquest if he had more patience and faith in Belisarius? Could the Romans have prevented the rise of Islam in the 600's?

What would the world be like today if the Byzantines could have defeated the Seljuk Turks at Manzikert? Or if Alexius V had been able to prevent the 4th crusade from capturing Constantinople in 1204?

*For General Knowledge: (who's he?)

- Many of our laws and institutions, including our forms of Government, most of our Church Structure (including the Orthodox and Catholic Churches), etc. are derived from the Romans.

- The unconquered Roman culture and state lasted for over 2206 years, from circa 753 BC to AD 1453. In other words, Rome existed from the time of the Greek colonization to just 50 years before Columbus visited America.

- Many of history's greatest people lived, and events happened during Roman times, from the fall of Egypt to Persia during the Roman Kingdom, the defeats of Persia by the Greeks and rise of Alexander the Great during the Republic, the rise of the Huns and Mongols, the Crusades in Europe, etc.

- The terms Roman and Byzantine cover the two major eras. These names are used interchangably, though any reference of Byzantine will most likely refer to either the city of Byzantium or the Empire itself after 330 AD.

Do you have ideas for how the Romans could have made it to modern times? If you have ideas for how this could have happened, or any other Alternate Roman Empire fantasies, then join up and let us know!
