      MONDAY 11 MARCH 2013

      INTERREGNUM - DAY 12

      SPECIAL REPORT

      THE YEAR OF FAITH

Nothing will be hidden from you
if you have perfect faith and love for Jesus Christ,
since these are the beginning and end of life.
Faith, indeed, is the beginning and love is the end.

      Clothe yourself with gentleness,
      and be renewed in faith,
which is the flesh of the Lord,
and in love, which is the blood of Jesus Christ.
Faith, indeed, is the beginning and love is the end.

      . CONCLAVE 2013
      ---------------------------------------------------------------

The Catholic Church is not of the world but it exists in the world and must not only constructively get along with the world but attract the world to Christ’s way of thinking and acting. Cardinals must focus on this key point, which will be one of two determining factors in this conclave of whom they select as the next Pope.

The Church does not live in a vacuum but lives and moves and breathes in a fallen and broken world, a world that God so loved that He gave His only begotten Son that all who believe in Him might live as the children of God and be saved.

This is the primary objective of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, to effectuate positive change in this fallen and broken sinful world. But how can the Church fulfill this mission with a world so hostile and opposed to it?

The answer to this question is very complex and requires great prayer, wisdom and knowledge. The conclave cannot elect a worldly wise man because he would not be an authentic holy man but a smooth talking slick politician, and a few cardinals who have the biggest press lately in the media fit this unfortunate ticket.

The Church needs a holy man that will not compromise Catholic doctrine but stand firm with the sinful world about what is right and what is wrong, like a good father who is strong of moral character.

The Church needs a Pope who is a loving and caring father who is corrective to his children but reassures them with a father’s love. The world needs change “big time” not the Church. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is the “rock” it is Christ since Christ is truth itself that never changes! Reforms in ecclesial administration are probably needed as all institutions must be organic and change over time to adjust, adapt, adopt, and grow rather than stagnate. But, administrative changes can be used as a vital issue by some campaigning cardinals who are begging to be Pope as if that is the crux of the matter, and it is not! They are merely blowing smoke so that eyes are veiled and that their voices stick in your ears and thoughts, like a noisy radio or irritating television commercial.

The crux of the matter is how to change “big time” the world! How can the Church do this? The Church needs a holy Pope to stand for what is true, honorable, just, decent, holy, and good without compromising but at the same time making this attractive to the unbelieving world. Only sheer goodness and holiness of the man himself can do this through his God-given charisms.

What becomes very obvious is what the world needs now is a Pope it would be willing to accept, a man it could trust, a man it will not be disappointed in by future media leaks of past sins and corruption that have heretofore escaped notice, a man who takes from God all that is good and gives it to the poor and needy world that hungers and thirsts for what is true and good.

Consequently, the Pope must be above reproach. He must be a man that can stand up and withstand scrutiny. He must be blameless throughout his life with an unblemished record, like the unblemished lamb, criteria the Jews used to select their high priest.

How could any intelligent and objective thinker not see that an American Pope would be a disaster and a scourge to the skeptical and unbelieving world and would be the equivalent of rubbing salt in an open sore wound. The world has been preconditioned already for years with the scandals from America. This is very unfortunate for any good and holy papabili from America. But if they are truly holy men they will be the first to see this truth and come to accept its reality, and for the good of the Church defer to others who would be equally good candidates for the good of the Church. However, a power hungry cardinal will not. He would prefer to bend the will of those around him in the conclave and in the world to his own.

This same analysis is equally true for any cardinal from another country that has also suffered from the recent scandals. The stigma would be too great a risk for the conclave electors to chance risk loosing the world since there are other equally qualified holy cardinals who could escape this stigma and avoid causing scandal to the world amid the noise of daily media reports that will be relentless obstructing any progress. The media fallout electing any papabili from a country already stigmatized by scandal would fuel the media with relentless reports throughout his papacy and obstruct any good.

Among the whole conclave this reduces the number of actual papabili dramatically.

Also, other qualities requisite for an effective Pope who can effectuate positive change in the world would be his experience dealing with war, death, threats, tensions, and strife. This is because we are dealing with a world at war, riddled with over 120 to 130 armed conflicts and wars in the world today where many hundreds of innocent people are killed every day.

He must be a Pope who can offer the world Christ who alone can satisfy the soul’s longing, not drugs, sex, and other worldly pleasures, allurements and deceptions that destroy the soul in sin.

Secondly, not only must the Pope have the capacity to win the world through grace but also heal the divisions within the Church. Who among the cardinals has such intimate ties with other Church leaders outside the Catholic faith?

There are only a few cardinals remaining who can possibly satisfy all of these, and of them only one emerges as the perfect match, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai.

He was sent to Syria this February as Pope Benedict XVI announced his abdication. He entered the war zone seeking peace where he also reigns as Patriarch, but living in Lebanon. Immediately afterwards he did not stop but left for Russia where he had a very successful meeting with the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill. If Cardinal Rai were to be elected Pope it is almost certain that the Russian Orthodox would reunite with Rome, and the Greeks would follow. This could very well initiate a domino effect where other Protestant factions could reunite.

We need a Pope strong in the faith who will confirm us, and the world, in our faith as well as attracting rather than repelling the world through holiness and adhering to the truths of the Catholic faith.

May Almighty God bless each and every cardinal elector at the conclave that His holy and divine will be done on earth as it certainly is in heaven. May every cardinal know that for each of them millions are praying around the world pouring out our hearts and tears before the Lord begging His will be done in the selection of a new Pope.

      . INTERREGNUM PRAYER
      ---------------------------------------------------------------

Almighty God, hallowed be Thy name. Thy will be done for Your Church on earth as
it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily Eucharistic bread offered on all
Your altars throughout the world for our good and the salvation of the world.
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Strengthen in holiness Your Priests, Bishops and Cardinals and call them into a
deeper conversion and union with You so that they may serve You more perfectly.
That Your Bishops, Priests, and Deacons may be tireless messengers of Your
Gospel to the ends of the earth. We beseech You to look with love on the Holy
Conclave and inspire them to elect that one among them You wish to serve as Your
Vicar here on earth. Lead them not into temptation but deliver them from the
evil and wiles of the devil so that protected by Your holy angels they may
freely think, deliberate and choose wisely the Cardinal best suited to be the
Bishop of Rome, Pontifex Maximus. Amen.

      . PRAYER FOR BENEDICT XVI
      ---------------------------------------------------------------

The following prayer is recommended to be said each day for Benedict XVI
during "The Year of Faith" and for the remainder of his life as a the former
      Vicar of Christ.

      PRAYER FOR BENEDICT XVI

Lord, look kindly on Benedict XVI and strengthen him with all the graces
necessary to perform his duties here on earth. Guard and protect him from all
evil. Grant him excellent health of mind and body. Empower him to transform the
world through Your most Holy Being. Empower him to convert sinners and warm the
chilled heart that has grown cold. Enkindle the fire of Your love in him and in
all the faithful so that together we may work towards fulfilling Your Most Holy
Will for us and the whole world. Amen.

      http://www.missionariesofthepoor.org/

      Fr. Richard Ho Lung

The Missionaries of the Poor (M.O.P.) is an international monastic order of
Brothers dedicated to "Joyful Service with Christ on the Cross" to serve the
poorest of the poor. The order was started in 1981 by Father Richard Ho Lung and
has now grown to over 500 brothers around the world.

The Missionaries of the Poor take vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and free
service to the poorest of the poor. We surrender all rights to our own material
possessions, bodily desires, will and remuneration for services rendered to the
poor. We have no private possessions, no bank accounts and live in
community--sharing all things in common. Our material needs are supplied by the
generosity of our supporters who share our faith, embrace our mission and offer
their own resources to serve the poor with and through us. There are three
      basic ways you can help:
