shop or place an order for meltable soap, molds and scents today. For
an added bonus, make a small embroidered item to insert in the soap
using the instructions that were printed in the ROCKING HORSE NEWS.
Is everyone busy entering items for competition at fairs and
festivals? Many County Fairs, State Fairs and other events have
special categories for specific fiber art items. For example, we
sponsor a cash award prize for the winner of the Machine Knit Afghan
category at the Minnesota State Fair textile competition.
Exhibiting items at fairs is great promotion for your fiber art,
especially if you do custom work to sell. It's also an excellent way
to promote interest in what we do! Everyone benefits when someone
makes the effort to show off their knitting, stitching, quilting,
felting or fiber art skills by entering items in fairs and festivals!
If you are unsure of where your local events or competitions are, do
a google search and you will be surprised how many opportunities
Here is a website that lists County and State Fairs all over the USA:
If you find a fair near you that doesn't offer categories specific to
your fiber art, TELL the coordinators and they will most likely
create a new category for the next year! We have been successful with
creating categories at several County Fairs near us, for things such
as Machine Embroidery, Spun Yarn, Dyed Yarn, Felted Items, and
"Combination of Machine Embroidery and Hand Work," just to name a few.
