      Dr. J. Allen Lewis went home to be with the Lord on Thursday,
      October 18, 2001. His funeral was held on 1 p.m., Tuesday, October
      23 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cary, N.C. He was
      buried in Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, N.C. Rev. George A.
      Jones officiated.

      Jackie "Jack" Allen was born October 29, 1951 in Franklin County,
      N.C. to Joseph and Lucy Lewis. Dr. Lewis was educated in the
      Franklin County School System. He attended Shaw University, Shaw
      Divinity School and North Carolina Central University. He received
      his doctorate in divinity under the leadership of Dr. Davis of Ohio.

      Dr. Lewis was a member of the Saint Delight United Church of Christ
      in Louisburg, N.C., where he served in th e Choir. He later joined
      the Juniper Level Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C., where he served
      in the choir and as a Sunday School teacher.

      At Juniper Level, he accepted his calling in the ministry and became
      an associate minister under the leadership of Dr. George A. Jones.
      The Lord led him to Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cary,
      N.C., where he became the pastor in October 1979. He served as the
      pastor until he was called home to be with the Lord. He had a lot
      of love for his church and church family.

      He was married to Phyllis G. Lewis and to this union God blessed
      them with three sons, Linwood Earl Mills, Timothy Cranford, and
      Demetris Allen Jamar Lewis; and a special guardian relationship
      with a nephew, Jesse Burnette and family family, David Campbell.

      He was a very loving and kind-hearted person. He always wore a
      cheerful smile.
