I honestly can't say I recall the place
( maybe because we got new shoes so seldom)-- or even going to K'ville to
shop, for that matter.
My shopping memories are primarily of
Auburn. Here's one:
It may have happened in the Boston Store.
One of my big thrills was occasionally getting a new pair of sneakers; we
felt so FAST running in those. Mom was doing the buying -- I
can't recall Dad being in the store (maybe he'd dropped her off to run some
other errand). We had tried on our new Keds (probably) and were
anticipating getting back to the "Crackerbox" (our house on Rt. 327).
Mom had paid for the shoes and then decided she needed to buy something
else. (Or perhaps we had walked to another store.) At any rate, she
set the bag on the floor to examine some merchandise. A few moments later,
she reached down for the bag -- and it was gone. Vanished! My heart
sank. There was no more money to buy replacement shoes.
No sneakers for Bobby and Jimmy that
summer. This is one of my saddest childhood memories.

Subject: you guys remember Connie's Shoes, on Road 3?
|We passed this place every time we
went to Kendallville when we lived on Kirkpatrick's hill. It
was at the corner of Old 6 and 3.|
I remember Dad buying
school shoes here for Bobby and me.
