Dearborn's Co/1st NewMarket Militia will be hosting the 230th
Anniversary of the Raid on Fort William & Mary, Portsmouth Harbor New
      Hampshire on December 12th 2004.

On Dec 14th 1774 400 angry townspeople decended upon the fort to
seize the powder and munitions stored there to prevent their capture
by British forces stationed in Boston. Over a two day period the
rebels removed 99 barrels of gunpowder, 60 stands of arms and 16
cannons. Long considered the first overt act of rebellion before the
war, had there been bloodshed all the history books of today would
      read differently.

Various scenarios are being planned for the events leading up to the
parade and after, with staging at Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth. The
events will also be tied in with the Banke's annual Candle Light
      Stroll.

Invitations to various reenacting units were sent out a few weeks
ago. If any other rebel units would like to participate please go to
www.1stnewmarket.org and contact the captain or lieutenant.
