Better yet, go to a newspaper printer and ask for a butt roll. (This
is not as rude a it sounds.) Newsprint also comes on a roll, and when new
the rolls are about 3' in diameter. A roll is changed before the end
because it's better to waste some paper than to re-thread the entire
press. Butt rolls have about an inch of paper still on them, which is a
lot of paper! Generaly they are recycled, but many printers are willing
to give them away. The paper is also handy for making patterns, giving
kids something to scribble on, etc.
