Dear List: As February 2nd is Groundhog Day, it is fitting and proper to let folks know that the Historical Society of Pennsylvania has imaged two orderly books associated with the German Regiment from 1776-1777. If this works, the link for volume 1 (from 1776 and early 1777) is below.

      http://digitallibrary.hsp.org/index.php/Detail/Object/Show/object_id/5579

Volume 1 covers the period when the unit was stationed in the Philadelphia Barracks, thereafter in its deployment with Washington's Main Army during the Trenton-Princeton Campaign, and in NJ in 1777.
The second imaged volume, from 1777, is (regrettably) heavily damaged. The HSP has also imaged an orderly book from Trent's Company from 1763, for those so interested.

On a related note, the Governor of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of Quarryville, Pennsylvania at Chateau White Rock proclaimed this morning that the omnipotent prognosticator saw his shadow (accept no pretenders, substitutes or false prophets). Six more weeks of winter quarters for His Excellency General Washington's Army.

      Happy Groundhog Day.
