      The on-line American Archives ( http://dig.lib.niu.edu/amarch/advanced.html ) is a very useful resource but does have some typos. Here's one that is a simple missing space, but with an amusing result. Picture this salute by a grenadier company:

      "His Lordship was saluted on his arrival by the Tamar, man-of-war, by Fort Johnson, and the several Forts in the Town, and about one o' clock the next day his Lordship landed at Champney's wharf, where he was received by several gentlemen, as also by the Grenadier Company underarms"
