From the Pulpit of a Holiness Preacher
"An email newsletter ministry of Richard D. Swift, publishing the sermons of Rev. Reed A. Swift (1899-1973), a holiness preacher"
This sermon was preached in every church Rev. Swift pastored and in revivals. His first pastorate was the Free Methodist circuit of Yale, Ball, and Buel, Michigan in 1929. The last time he preached this sermon was to the Bible Missionary Church, Pomona, California August 15, 1971. He must have had an altar call in nearly every place he preached this because after most of the place notations, he has how many were saved and/or sanctified. The following was preached (in order) in the Free Methodist Churches of Yale, Ball, Buel, Michigan Circuit; Sarnia, Elmer, Caro, and Port Huron Mission, Michigan; Glendale, California;
Cottage Grove, Oregon; W.Hollywood, California; Phoenix, Arizona; Liddieville and Jonesville, Louisiana; Hazelhurst, Mississippi; Grandbay, Alabama; MarMissouri; Chickisaw, Antioch, Lismore, and Winnsboro, Louisiana; Girard, Pennsylvania; Holum, Louisiana; Mapledale, Pennsylvania; Shreveport, Monroe, Belwood, and Pineville, Louisiana; Lakeland and Miami, Florida; New Orleans and Provencal, Louisiana; Rockwall, Texas; Flint, Michigan; Jena and Olive Branch Mission Louisiana ('45); Pomona, California; Hope Mission Phoenix, Arizona; Bonner's Ferry, Idaho; Rayville, Louisiana; Mira Loma, California (twice); Hillman, Davison, W.Branch, and Hale, Michigan ('54); Summerville and Liddievie, Louisiana ('55); and Upland, California ('55); and in the Bible Missionary Churches of Phoenix, Arizona ('58); Cucamonga, California (three times:

I send this out August 15, 2013, 42 years to the day after it was last preached. Incidently, his last sermon before he passed to his reward in heaven, was preached in August, 1973 in the Pomona Bible Missionary Church Christian School chapel service. the sermon was "Plowing Up Your Fallow Ground". The notes for that sermon are not in my collection of his sermons.
No Condemnation to Those in the Spirit
"There is therefore now no condemnation"
Romans 7:24 pictures the carnal man or one under the law. "Oh wretched man" is not the best road to heaven.
1. Legality Rd, without love, is wretched. Offend in one point and you're guilty.
2. Reformation Rd is wretched. Turn over a new leaf?
3. Morality Rd, good but not a through street.
4. False Doctrine Rd is "a way that seemeth right", but leads to death.
Oh "wretched man", don't try to get to heaven on these roads. "Ye must be born again."
You may be Baptised, Catechised, Confirmed, and join the church, but "Ye must be born again." Jesus is the "Way, the Truth, and the Life." There is no other way.
Verse 24: "Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?" A sinner is chained to the world, the flesh, and the devil.
In olden times, a prisoner was chained to a corpse. I used to think it was back to back but found out it was face to face. So is man under the law in church without God's help. These souls cry out, "Who shall deliver me?" The lodge? What is the cure for sin's disease? The Lamb of God! "He breaks the power of cancelled sin." "He sets the prisoner free--His Blood--" "Old things are passed away." We are now a new creation in Christ Jesus. New birth, New nature, desires, companions, master. The destiny at the end of the way is eternal life. "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life." Examples: Archie Ryan, Winnie Ruth Judd. "Be not deceived, God is not mocked,
for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
Advice and example are like great streams carrying lives upward or downward. Streams of salvation only go upward. Small at the beginning but growth is fast and becomes powerful. Like Mississippi River. Influence lives on forever! Example: my first circuit- grandfather and Dan Grim. Some want their influence buried like Mr. Hallead at Yale. "If we sow to the wind, we will reap a whirl wind." Watch your influence. We reap as we sow.
B.H. Pearson says, "The reason we don't se more seekers at our altars is because God won't bring them when He knows we haven't power to pray them through."
The Prodigal Son had to cover ground going back home that he covered going away from home! So will you! Repentance is a bitter pill. If you refuse to come back, sin will embarrass you.
Example: A man at Winnsboro, Louisiana called to preach.
2. The prodigal son feeding swine.
3. The woman taken in sin--"Go and sin no more."
4. I knew a man who said he was drunk once and fell in a mud hole. "Be sure your sin will find you out." I am so glad that man found cleansing in Jesus. It was my father! "From the cross there flows a hallowed stream."
Jesus offers you a remedy for sin right now! How sad to come to the end of life and no hope of heaven. "Turn ye, oh turn ye for why will ye die." "Ask for the old paths where is the good way that leadeth unto life eternal." By faith in Jesus' blood you may have cleansing now.
"Room, room, yes there is room. There is room at the fountain for you."
You may be born again. Come just as you are! Jesus will give you rest.
Extra wings tied to an eagle are no help.
To live good, you must have the nature of Christ. Examples: Tiger * Snake* A carnal Christian can't stand the test! You can't trust sin! Get rid of it! Just like leprosy!
The hope of the world is a heaven sent revival! False religions are gaining and so is war and bllod shed everywhere, but no Christ!
"Choose ye this day whom ye will serve." There are only two ways: One leads to heaven and the other leads to hell. (Illustration of Chicago train depot. A small frog in the trither east or west fouled up the directions.) Invitation
This concludes my grandfather's sermon. What a serious message! Reader, how about it? Can you say you are witout condemnation? You can!
