  • Wingy Manone recorded in 1934 with Sidney Arodin & Santo Pecora (I think it was) under the name of the NORKs. The sides recorded certainly do not represent a recreation but may be seen as a tribute. Perhaps. • Phill I heartily concur with Dave Brown's recommendations but would like to add Freddie Keppard to his list of essential giants. Prolonged & extensive listening to the music of this, or any other, period confirms that there is a hierarchy of greatness. • "Uptown Bumps" is usually just another name for "The Bucket's Got a Hole In It" but with a short chorus or strain preceding the more familiar melody. George Lewis recorded Bucket with this extra chorus in 1946 for Blesh's Circle label. Can you supply more details regarding the Lewis session you heard? Robert Greenwood.

  • Hooray! We are back in the material world for once. I agree with Marc. As for Dodds' solo on this version of Dippermouth, even the greatest of players can have lapses. In this case I think it may have been a lapse of memory. Who knows?
