    The following site states that Sylvester Briscoe (tbn/ tpt) attended the Jenkins Orphanage at Charleston, SC.

      Orphanage at Charleston, SC.

      However the 1920 census shows him (aged 17) in the "Industrial School of Reform"
      in Louisville, Kentucky.  He and his parents were all born in Kentucky.

      It is the same guy, because in 1930 he was in Richmond, Madison County,
      Kentucky, about the correct age, "Musician, Orchestra".  (John Jackson and
      Joseph Fleming, also musicians, roomed with him).

      Does anyone know the source of the Jenkins information as regards Briscoe?

        Chilton states that Briscoe was in the Jenkins band ³during the early 20s².

        Doesn¹t prove it¹s true but the Jenkins bands consistently hired
        teacher-musicians to double as minders so maybe he was taken on from another
        orphange¹s band in that role.
