I thought Goodman admitted to being influenced/liked Noone's playing.

Always nice to hear from Albert about Bix.
Now Bix is the perfect example of a player with impeccable taste and
profound architectonic sense.
Also perfectly fulfilling Harrison's measure as, arguably, the most original
jazz musician ever. Other candidates ?
Also his music has an irresistible flow. That is not exactly the same as
swing but then Bach flows but does not swing.
But Bix raises perhaps another 'measure of final achievement ' -- legacy.
I know we have been here before but Bix's legacy was somewhat short-lived
and mostly to spawn imitation. Louis, for example, spawned imitation but
also the whole further history of jazz.
Can Dodds' legacy be limited to, possibly, Willie Joseph and, definitely,
the ersatz emoting of white revival clarinettists worldwide ?
It could be argued that, through his admitted influence on Goodman, his
legacy eventually pervaded the entire swing era and entered standard
Dodds' good taste I think we have agreed and I certainly find a coherent
form in his best work. It is also possible to argue that such was his
originality that the spurious existence of a whole pre-Dodds school of
clarinet playing was predicated upon it.
