Re: [RedHotJazz] "Guinness Jazz Companion" available
- Thank you for the information on Alex Hyde.I would like to know if I could get a large print copy of it as a stroke I had sometime between my fifty fith and fifty six birthdays. That was in 2005 and 2006.I don't have the Brian Rust discography and I wonder if,perhaps,Da Capo Press has reissued it as I had Da Capo reprints of the book on Glenn Miller by George T. Simon from 1974 as well as the book he wrote back in 1967,"The Big Bands".Da Capo also reprinted Artie Shaw's "The Trouble with Cinderella" which I still have.I also bought Sudhalter's "Bix Man and Legend".That's what I like about this group of people:I'm always learning about musicians I had either heard(via LP,CD or 78 and 80 rpm recordings) or heard of.Thanks again.

"The Guinness Jazz Companion"
Peter Clayton; Paperback; $14.95
Basically a reader's guide to mainly red hot jazz and UK trad. One
still needs Chilton for biography, but it answers questions like
"What is a Bix?" Loads of photos, maps of key city jazz areas, etc.
One of my all-time favorite jazz books.
I hadn't realized it was still in print, so I grabbed a bunch to make
available to friends and colleagues.
Dave Littlefield banjo, piano, guitar, washboard
