      THE STRINGER:
      STOLEN GENERATIONS CONTINUE

      - Analysis / Opinion

      The Stringer: Stolen Generations continue
      http://thestringer.com.au/stolen-generations-continue/
16 Nov 13: "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
are still being removed from their families at rates
equivalent to and at times greater than the rates they were
removed during the Stolen Generations. When comparing
removal rates the comparisons have to be made against the
numbers of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders
peoples who have been identified as Aboriginal and/or
Torres Strait Islander for more than a few generations
rather than against the larger numbers of Aboriginal
and/or Torres Strait Islander people that the Australian
Bureau of Statistics Census identifies, " By The Stringer

18 Nov 13: "Community consultations across Australia on the
over-representation of Indigenous children in out-of-home
care. ... Representatives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander children and families say state governments,
businesses and community groups must help efforts to
reduce soaring levels of Indigenous children being removed
from their families. A group of Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander non-government organisations has launched
a round of community consultations across the country in
the hope of addressing the over-representation of
Indigenous children in out-of-home care. ... " By Biwa Kwan

      * ANNA PATTY, CANBERRA TIMES:
      NEW SOUTH WALES:
ANOTHER STOLEN GENERATION LOOMS, WARN PROTESTERS

      - Analysis / Opinion

      Canberra Times: New South Wales:
Another stolen generation looms, warn protesters

      http://www.canberratimes.com.au/nsw/another-stolen-generation-looms-warn-protesters-20131128-2yctl.html
28 Nov 13: "The government is opening the way to a new
stolen generation, protesters outside State Parliament have
warned. The NSW government plans to introduce controversial
adoption laws allowing the forced removal of children from
their mothers. ... The opposition spokeswoman for family
and community services, Linda Burney, said the legal
      profession, Aboriginal and community-based disability
groups have expressed concerns around the proposed measures
      on adoption." Anna Patty,

      http://www.snaicc.org.au/news-events/fx-view-article.cfm?loadref=32&id=1261
      15 Nov 13: "At a forum attended by over 140 non-government
organisations and community members, the Northern
Territory Minister for Children and Families, John Elferink
yesterday pledged his support for Aboriginal controlled
      services.
The Minister said "I would love for communities to come to
me and say, this is what we want to do, this is how we
could do it, can you support it? Bring me a model and
I will support it", he said.
The Minister was speaking at a public forum held in Darwin
organised by the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and
Islander Child Care (SNAICC) in partnership with Strong
Families together (SAF,T) and Northern Territory Council
      of Social Service.
The forum was exploring the issue of the continued
removal of Aboriginal children from their families and
placed in out-of-home care. Since 2003 the number of
children being taken away has tripled in the Northern
Territory and represents six times the rate of removal
      compared to non-Aboriginal children. ... "

Affairs and Reconciliation spokesperson, Tammy Franks, has
spent the last three years trying to push through
parliament a Stolen Generations reparations Bill. After a
long wait, Ms Franks’ Bill received support from a
parliamentary committee. Ms Franks welcomes the support for
the Bill by members of both the Labor and Liberal parties
of the Aboriginal Lands Parliamentary Standing Committee
