Andrea Stewart-Cousins Chooses Donors Over Constituents By Voting No On Property Tax Cap
Yonkers, NY --”Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins had a chance to vote for her constituents, but instead she voted for her campaign donors,” said John Murtagh, candidate in the 35th State Senate District (Yonkers -Greenburgh- Mt. Pleasant).
Senator Stewart-Cousins voted against the property tax cap bill a day after one of her biggest campaign contributors -- Greg Jobin Leeds -- wrote an Op-Ed article in Newsday calling for its defeat.
“Andrea Stewart-Cousins proved once again her unwillingness to move New York forward. She represents retronomics, a time of failed economic policy which taxes people into the grave and fails to properly fund our schools,” charged Mr. Murtagh.
Murtagh, a Yonkers Councilman said, “We can’t wait for Senator Stewart-Cousins to finally see the light. During her 2 years in office she has done nothing to ease the crushing financial burden that higher taxes and out of control spending has placed on the people she was elected to serve. We can’t afford to have a State Senator in Albany who is so out of touch with the people’s needs,” Murtagh declared.
“Andrea Stewart-Cousins must listen to what people are talking about around their kitchen tables. It is just plain common sense that to serve the people you must respond to what is on their minds. More than 74% say that want a tax cap. Andrea Stewart-Cousins however has chosen to serve her campaign donors instead of her constituents,” concluded Mr. Murtagh.
