Subject: [lwvnyc] Good News about NY Voting Machines

We are pleased to tell you that, after five years of hard work on the part of
voting integrity advocates including the NYC League of Women Voters, the New
York State Board of Elections rejected Direct Recording Electronic voting
machines (DREs). The Board of Elections has approved only ballot marking
devices that are compatible with optical scanners for use in polling places in
      September and November 2008.

This momentous decision by the State Board of Elections almost guarantees that
New York State will vote on paper ballots and ballot scanners when it finally
      replaces lever machines in 2009.
