LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A former state lawmaker who was part of a campaign to
end some types of public affirmative action programs in Michigan has been
named chairman of a state advisory committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil
      Rights.
Leon Drolet, a Republican and member of the Macomb County Board of
Commissioners, announced his appointment to the unpaid position Monday.
The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has an advisory committee for each
state. Chairs of the advisory committees are voted on by the commission and
      appointed to two-year terms.
