Re: [RLC-Action] School Choice and Charter Schools
- Now THERE is a project for libertarians who want to wean students out of the government schools. It is giant step in the right direction --eventually leading to separation of school and state.----- Original Message -----From: Thomas SewellSent: Wednesday, January 31, 2007 6:37 PMSubject: [RLC-Action] School Choice and Charter Schools
For those of you looking for something to do to actually make a difference,
take a look at your state laws about charter schools. Generally, any
properly organized group can apply to start one and the idea is to do
something different than a typical public school would do.
I've just (literally UPS'd the final application plus 10 copies 20 minutes
ago) applied to start a charter school along with a group of six other local
volunteers, and while it was a huge effort involving over a year of our time
to just create a complete application (and now we have to present it to the
State Charter School Board and then actually build and open the school) it
will probably also make more of a difference in educating future voters
(current and future students, 975 every year) outside the leftist monopoly
on education in this country than just about anything else we could have
tried to do.
The big key is to recruit like-minded other people with the right skill sets
to get together and get the application done.
If anyone plans to apply to their state to start a Charter school, email me
privately and I can give you more detailed assistance than would be
appropriate in this forum.
